Smoke Ring Gun

Nu-Age , 1950
United States

There was a time when parents didn't care if their kids lived or died, as long as the little buggers had fun. How else do you explain this gun, which used matches to create smoke inside the barrel. Pulling the trigger caused it to blow rings.

The matches were even rocket shaped, making them positively irresistable to young, fun-loving pyromaniacs everywhere.

The toy used a rubber diaphragm to fire the smoke rings, and over time, this rubber piece hardens and breaks. Consequently, a working gun is extremely hard to find—though some people repair the toys and replace the rubber.

The Smoke Ring gun came in a yellow version, too. The books of matches, which came three to a pack, could be had in green or blue, and replacement packs were available in red.
