MTH was one of two companies to reproduce Yonezawa's Mr. Atomic (the other was Osaka Tin Toy Institute). Originally released in 1962, Mr. Atomic became the poster child for the robot collecting scene in the Eighties and Nineties, and with its unique bullet shape, wonderful litho, bump-and-go action, and colorful flashing lights, it's easy to understand why. But as the price continued to rise even as more examples surfaced, Mr. Atomic lost some of its luster. Nonetheless, it remains today a favorite among many collectors, which explains why this (relatively) inexpensive reproduction continues to sell briskly on ebay. Not only does a silver version of this repro exist, but there is also a mini wind up incarnation in both colors. And no, there is no conclusive evidence that Mr. Atomic and Dr. Atomic are related...
