Cosmic Ray Gun

Ranger Steel , 1953
United States

Ranger Steel made a number of excellent ray guns, only a couple of which were actually steel. The rest were plastic, and the company took advantage of the material to make some ultra-futuristic toys. This is one of the few toys with a replaceable flint, meaning that kids could get much more bang—zap?—for their parents' bucks.

For some reason, this toy is almost always found with a mint box. They're surprisingly common, too. Consequently, it's not hard to add one to a collection for not too much money.

The Cosmic Ray gun also came in blue with red details, blue with blue details, and a version with a swept back fin on top.
