One of many Japanese robots that borrows its basic design from Ideal's Robert the Robot, Chief Robotman distinguishes itself with its retro-mechanical styling and colorful details. Shiny chrome and flashy translucent plastic make this the classic Fifties car of the toy robot world.
Chief Robotman doesn't lack in the play value department, either. Bump and go action, a light up dome, and spinning scanner rings are only the beginning -- when the robot pauses, its head turns from side to side while he makes a weird mechanical sort of sound. The effect hints eerily of artificial intelligence, and gives Chief Robotman tons of personality. It's no wonder this toy's considered one of the all-time greats. |
